Founder’s Vision and Leadership

TajiZuri began with a simple conviction: every child in rural Kenya deserves more than survival—they deserve to thrive. Founded by Martina “Tina” Adega, our work was born from firsthand witness to the quiet crises that pull children from classrooms: hunger, stigma around menstrual health, unmet mental wellbeing, and learning environments that fail to inspire.

Rather than offering temporary fixes, Tina envisioned an ecosystem of support that tackles these challenges at their roots. What started as a grassroots response has grown into a registered Civil Society Organization now active across 37 schools in Homa Bay County. Through strategic partnerships, volunteer mobilization, and deeply collaborative program design, she has ensured TajiZuri remains firmly rooted in the communities it serves.

Her leadership is guided by five core commitments:

  • Designing with communities, not for them
  • Centering youth voices in every decision
  • Nurturing the whole child -mind, body, and potential
  • Building systems, not just short-term solutions
  • Measuring what matters, so impact lasts

WHO WE ARE

At TajiZuri, we believe education is the foundation of thriving rural communities. We’re a Kenya-based nonprofit working at the intersection of learning, resilience, and sustainable development. Rather than just removing barriers to education, we rebuild the ecosystem around it.

By nurturing a growth mindset, sparking meaningful behavior change, and empowering teachers, caregivers, and learners, we help rural communities:

  • Eliminate barriers to consistent, quality education
  • Reimagine learning to re-engage students, educators, and families
  • Unlock economic potential by equipping caregivers and teachers with skills that drive long-term resilience

TajiZuri works collaboratively with local public primary schools, caregivers, community leaders, fulltime staff, interns and volunteers to ensure contextual relevance and long-term sustainability. Strategic partnerships with corporate and institutional actors have strengthened program delivery and expanded impact.

The organization is driven by a youthful, passionate team and guided by the principle that sustainable transformation begins at the grassroots level.

TajiZuri exists to prove that when communities lead their own development, the impact lasts generations.
